The Tabasco Company

Hidden away off the beaten path, on the Louisiana coastline  is a secret treasure.  It is one of several salt islands on the coast known as Avery Island.  It is full of a variety of plants from around the world and wildlife.  It is surrounded by marshes, swamps and exotic plants.   It is also home to one of the neatest factory tours and museums we have ever visited.  The McIlhenny family, private owners of the Tabasco company, have built their amazing factory on Avery Island.   They have done a beautiful job with the landscaping, tours, museum, store and restaurant.

Incredibly The Tabasco Company is privately owned and has remained in the same family since 1868  , when Edmund Mcllhenny started his first garden of pepper plants on Avery Island.  Within two years of starting The Tabasco Company, McIlhenny was selling his amazing sauce all over the USA and Europe.  Not only has it remained in the family, the entire process of planting, picking, aging and bottle style has almost remained the same over nearly 150 years. The current President and CEO is the seventh generation of the McIlenny family.

Visitors can  purchase tickets for the factory tours, museum visits, jungle garden & bird city tour,  private VIP tours, cooking classes and culinary tours.   Be sure to spend some time in the store for unique gifts  and restaurant while visiting the property.
